What a time we’re living in, eh? The day before this post was written, the president of the United States and his ‘playground bully’ sidekick had a childish argument with the president of Ukraine in front of the world, with life and death consequences for people in Ukraine. Despite the unfavourable sounding terms of the unsigned agreement, I wanted it to happen to stop more killing. The idea of US economic interests in Ukraine acting as a deterrent to further invasions by Russia seemed like a warped masterstroke and quite possibly a much better idea than increasing military support.

Anyway, with perfect timing, my new album World to Rights is released digitally today and the title track, about wasting time talking endlessly about politics and world events at the expense of more important things, is very relevant to the above. It’s not that I’m against talking about politics – far from it, and I may even agree with some of the sentiments expressed in the song – but we do tend to overdo it, don’t we?
The album’s other songs cover a range of other issues that I’ve probably been guilty of pontificating about, including climate change, poverty, football and even love. Here’s a video I made last year of one of the songs, Please Don’t Vote Conservative.
You can listen to the whole album on Bandcamp and all the usual streaming services.
The album was mastered at CHEM19 and the artwork uses a picture taken by my sister Katie Paterson.
